My youngest girls and I were reading Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder around the time I stumbled onto this article in the May 1942 issue of Woman’s Day. I thought it was a fun coincidence that it was written by Wilder’s daughter, Rose Wilder Lane. I wanted to share the images with you since it is an interesting look at a real home in 1942.
The house was built in 1879 and still stands at 23 King Street in Danbury, Connecticut. It’s just over 3500 square feet and was renovated by Lane after she purchased it in 1938. She lived there until her death in 1968.
The article described how she had decorated some of the rooms in her house, and she included pictures of the home’s interior. I’m including those here. If you would like to see what the inside looks like more recently, a quick internet search will bring up several options to do so.

I really like how she had big comfy chairs everywhere, even in the bathroom. What bliss!

It makes me want to put a chair in my bathroom. I also thought her kitchen looked cozy with those mismatched chairs and table by the window.
