This July 1942 Woman’s Day article shows the reader how to take an out-of-style lamp and turn it into something fashionable. Women during the war years still wanted to decorate their homes, but shortages and other difficulties often made it a struggle. Magazine publishers knew this and frequently featured articles that helped women have a well-decorated home on a budget and despite shortages. You can find the whole article on my blog. This month marks three whole years since I posted my first blog post over at History in the Kitchen. I joined Instagram at the same time. I started the blog to share some of my research, and I didn’t think it would last long. Yet, three years later, I’m still here! Thank you all so much for all of your kind words and encouragement. Remember those Whipped Hamburger Balls from last week? Here they are! The recipe was from this month’s First Monday Menu, taken from the July 1942 issue of Woman’s Day. These are yummy! You can taste the Worcestershire sauce, but everything is well blended and so, so good. These are versatile, too. Make larger patties for burgers, serve with your favorite veggies and some noodles, or pop them into your mouth for a protein-packed snack.
