This is a Del Monte corn ad from the October 1945 issue of Better Homes and Gardens.
I know that this is really close to the end of the time period I cover here, but I think that looking at things published late in 1945 are fascinating. There are so many advertisements for appliances and automobiles and articles about new homes and modern kitchens, but there are still sugar-saving recipes due to the continuation of sugar rationing. I enjoy finding hints of life shifting away from wartime living and toward a new normal.
This tamale loaf recipe would work as a modern weeknight supper. I’m curious what it would taste like with chicken. Let me know if you try it. As always, scroll down for close-up images of the recipe.
