Jam!

My youngest daughters and I are gardening this year. We are looking forward to having our own fresh fruits and vegetables, and we are hoping to have enough of some things to can later this year.

You don’t have to have your own garden to make delicious homemade jams. A trip to your local grocery store or farmers’ market can provide you with all the goodies you need to can your own jams and jellies. Here are a few recipes to start with from Your Gas Range Cook Book, published in 1940 by the Wyandotte County (Kansas) Gas Company’s Home Service Department.

My goal is to talk about canning a little more than usual later this year, and I’m hoping to try a few recipes that I can share with you later on.

Do you have a favorite 1940s canning recipe? Or even a favorite canning recipe from any time period? I’d love to see it.
