I think that sometimes when we think of wartime shortages we forget that it affected women’s lives in ways other than imposing challenges to their meal planning. This article from the July 1945 issue of Woman’s Day is a reminder of that.
It’s also a reminder that we’ve come a long way in understanding sun safety and in the creation of self-tanners. This article states that your legs “must be tanned either by the sun or by you”. There was also an article in this issue about how to safely sun-bathe with babies.

I’ve been sifting through all my newest Woman’s Day issues. July 1945 is one of my most recent finds and it has a whole bunch of recipes I want to try, including some from food and beverage ads!
Have a great week!
