We’ve had so many days in a row of 100+°F temps that I’ve really been searching for new cool treat ideas. I found this recipe for Grape Lime Ice in the very back pages of the July 1943 issue of Woman’s Day magazine. It was hidden in a corner among some advertisements and some fiction conclusions. It wasn’t mentioned in the table of contents. I’m happy I found it because it was just what I had been hunting for.

If you want to serve this at a party or other specific time, make sure you plan ahead. We found that the longer it was frozen, the easier it was to work with. We used the freezer method, but I want to try it again with our old-style ice cream maker.

This was so delicious! The ice ended up being much like shaved ice and tasted mainly like grape juice. None of my tasters could detect any lime. The texture was smooth and melted nicely in the mouth. We used an ice cream scoop to serve it in bowls. I would say that the serving size in the recipe was pretty accurate. Six of us had large servings and there was plenty left over. I definitely recommend this as a fun treat when you are craving something other than typical popsicles and ice cream. We are already trying to think of ways we could adapt this for other drinks. Lemonade ice, maybe?

Later this week I am going to add a post with some links to cold drink recipes I’ve tried before. I think this is the perfect time of year to revisit some of them. A few have become favorites in my house. Let me know if you have a favorite warm weather treat or cold drink.
